I am getting married this weekend and have everything set to have the wedding of my dreams, except I still haven't told my fiance that I can't stand his cousin who is also his best friend and the best man. I cringe at the thought of this guy standing at the altar with us and making the toast. I actually instructed our d.j. to not announce a dance between the bride/best man and groom/maid of honor because I think I would puke if he touched me. My husband-to-be doesn't know any of this. I'm not sure he'd marry me if he knew how much I hate his cousin/best friend.

Why am I so revolted? "John" used to be in a racist gang. He still has many bigoted feelings and has multiple tatoos about white power. He has four kids by four different teenaged Aryan princesses (think Brittaney Spears wannabees with bad teeth and little education) whose older brothers and daddies were in this gang with him. He purposely doesn't work a regular job so he doesn't have to pay taxes. He tells racists and homophobic jokes and then says that he doesn't understand why people get offended.

My husband-to-be is a sweet guy who says John has substance abuse problems because of a back injury and is basically harmless. I don't want this man in our home or around our kids when we have children.

You need to talk with your future husband and explain your concerns about "John"'s background, tattoos, and attitudes.
Explain how children mimic what they see and hear, and you're not comforatable with that type of influence.
The next time John starts his mouth, just politely and calmly say to him "I find your humor offensive." And walk away. Do this everytime. If that fails, limit your time around him. Go to the store, visit your friends and family, etc. Be the bigger person and ignore his behavior, and don't react - he may do it to aggravate you and others, as a way to respond with a verbal or physical attack.
Good Luck!

Forget being the "bigger person"---there are just some people in life that drive you nuts and you can't help but want to drive them out of your life. I say find out what makes him REALLY uncomfortable and every time he comes over to your house or is just a general pain in the ass, bug the living shit out of him by making him feel horribly uncomfortable. If you do that, he'll quit coming over to your house and distance himself.

Why not at the wedding seat him around primarily black and hispanic people? Prepare them ahead of time for what he'll say and act like, and ask if they'd be willing to run some interference for you to make your wedding day run a little smoother. If he acts up and gets out of hand, he'll make himself look like an even bigger ass than he already is and hopefully your husband will step in and make him behave. Does he hate rap music? Play it all the time when he comes over. There has to be something that will push his buttons to the point of where he just won't want to come back because he feels so unwelcome (what a shame, lol).

I have the exact same problem with my husband's best friend being a total jackass in general and I find that if I do shit that just horribly annoys him and makes him angry (and play dumb like I didn't know it would upset him), he stays the hell out of my house and I have peace and quiet. And no offense, but I hope your husband wises up one of these days and stops making excuses for this guy's behavior. Substance abuse problems or not, the cousin/best friend needs to grow up and start living in 2005, not 1865 with that racist behavior of his.

Be friendly to him. Have him over all the time. Get his drinks for him.
Each time, pour antifreeze in, and eventually he'll go away.

Well, you're either married by now or on your way to a divorce lawyer for an anullment!
Your husband's cousin is a real piece of work, but you should have made your position on keeping him at a distance clear to your husband before the wedding was planned out not right before the ceremony.

I hope you have enjoyed your wedding.
Give us an update, if you will.

I kind of know how you feel. I have a brother-in-law (my husband's sister's husband) that I can't stand. He hates me too. I wish only bad things for him.

Oh for fuck's sake who cares? Jokes aren't meant to be taken so seriously, even if he does hate certain races he has every right to his own opinion of an ethnicity, second of all the terms racist and homophobia are absolutely idiotic , different people of different ethnicities criticize each other all the time, that's called being human, and second of all homophobia means fear of gay people, most people just dislike gays, they're not afraid of them, and if they want they can dislike gays , people make it seem like a crime, well..fuck you! youre an annoying whiny bitch and a drama queen, and if you really can't stand his cousin tell him, instead of complaining about on this website , hes about to be your husband fuckface, grow a pair and talk to him seriously about this, either he will agree with you and push away his cousin, or he will be smart about it, break up with you , and choose to side with his cousin instead of you, theres a lot of people like you all of whom i cant stand , even just hearing about them makes me sick, quit trying to fucking be in control of who he associates with and since you married him , you by default have to associate with him or do something about it like oh idk not marry him in the first place and wow surprised you hadn't thought about the whole possibility of not liking his family before deciding whether or not to marry him, just go die in a hole.
