I've recently come across stuff on the internet accusing the late great author and poet of the down and out, Charles Bukowski, of being an Anti-semite. Anyone who knows anything about Buk knows he flirted with American nazism before and during the Secong World War, not because he hated Jews, but because of a romantic attachment he had with Germany, which was his birth place. I think he's being targeted in part because he was a German American, and the Germans are the last ethnic group who people can shit on without being called politicaly incorrect. Germans - natives of Germany or German Americans - are too prideful to bitch and whine like others do who get shit on for who they are.
Even if he did hate Jews (or anyone else), I could care less. I read his stuff because it smokes!

Yeah, Bukowski was quite a character.
His work just seems to get more and more famous as time goes on.
That's pretty good for an author who wasn't exactly N.Y.Times material.

There's a theater here in N.Y.C. which does plays and readings of his work once a year.
It's always very crowded.
I like the little of his poetry which I've heard or read, but it's his novelizations of his life which really attracted me to him.
There's nothing in his novels which could be reasonably be construed as racist.
