My wife just got a ticket for going 35 in a 25 mph zone.

We all know that it is easy to go over the speed limit especially when the speed limit is only 25 mph. What I would like to know is how many times has a policeman gone over the speed limit other than chasing a speeder. How many times do they speed going to a donut shop?

There is a guy who lives across the street. He owns a bar, and he parks right at the stop sign. Just because he owns the bar, doesn't mean he can park in front of the stop sign.
I have seen a lot of cars parked illegally by stop signs and fire hydrants. Why are they not ticketed?

I guess cops can do anything they want.

Cops make a lot of money not putting tickes on centain vehicles, same thing with looking the other way on a drug deal. The old saying goes, I'm a cop because I'm too chicken to steal, and to lazy to work.

I can understand your frustration. One thing I can not stand living in a congested suburb and seeing police and ambulances alike putting their sirens on just to make it through the red light. It is sickening seeing this abuse of power...and even though it may be a small thing it just goes to show how much the little things add up.

I would take pictures and send them to the newspaper and to police and ask your questions anonymously.

Trust me this whole state is corrupt! It is truly sickening. There is nothing you can do about it. You will just get harrassed and it's not worth it. There are so many injustices in this state from healthcare, to teachers, to firefighters to taxes. I love my country, dislike the government. I vote so atleast I am not the type to complain yet do nothing about it!

I'm a police officer and I speed every day. A matter of fact I have an 07 shelby and I drive it very fast everywhere I go. I also on patrol I speed all the time. But unlike some of the police you all are talkng about i bust everyone and anyone. Fuck who's in charge. I busted the mayor's son for weed, and two days later gave his wife a speeding ticket. So trust me some of us do our job.

Be honest - no one knows who you are. Don't you feel a little hypocritical busting people for stuff that you do? Or is it a power trip for you?

Nope not a power trip and I don't feel bad for doing. I have no problem with people speeding. Just don't do it in town and when there is alot of people around. When I speed I am on the freeway or out in the country.
I'll bust someone if they are driving retarded. Like all the people driving the rice burners thinking their car is better than everybody elses. I can't go out in my shelby with out some punk pulling up to me acting cool challenging me. Fuck You I will torc your doors off everytime. (Sorry folks i just had a kid do it to me on the way home)
What I'm saying is there are some cops that could give a shit less what you do. Like this guy. Then you got the hard asses that will pull you over for basically nothing.

As long as you let people driving fast but doing it safely get away with (a little of) it, then I've got no problem with you. If you had said that you bust people for 26 in the 25 zone to meet your quota, then zip through town leaving rubber - then I'd have a problem.

The speed limits in a lot of places are artificially low and I wish more officers would use their judgement and common sense in deciding when and where to ticket someone.

No quota here. So no need to pull over for little shit. Plus if you go to court over one mile an hour over the speed limit the judge usally, not always throws it out. 6+ over is ticket range in most places. I'm not saying always. Just depends on who you get.

I am from RI and my husband was pulled over and ticketed for having a small crack in the rear tail light. We didn't even notice it and it could have been easilly fixed. But because of some little prick had to meet his quota we had to pay a mechanic to replace it and stamp a paper for the five day tag to be sent back to the DOT! This could have been fixed so much easier without the 5 day tag. Better yet, he could have let him go with a warning...and the thing that pisses me off about it is that he was not speeding and was on his way to work! This same officer had busted my friend the same week for a blown head light

Nothing like stereotyping a group of people: Never wrote a traffic ticket but i have paid them; don't speed through a 25 mph zone (where I am from that's a school zone or residential area--nothing too good to protect our kids); not rich and don't know any rich cops that didn't inherit money from someone who had a "real job"; don't help drug dealers and I do arrest them when I can, never took money from one I didn't turn in either; arrested cops, judges son's, D.A. son's, sheriff's son's for drugs, sex offenses, murder, theft, false reports, etc.; never met a perfect cop, teacher, engineer, nurse, doctor, salesman, housewife, construction worker, judge, lawyer, (You get the point).

Most cops are just like me: I'm a cop, a next door neighbor that helps the old people that live alone on the street who's kids don't check on them, I'm on the church council, I belong to civic groups that provide charity to the needy, I sit on advisory boards for groups that help the mentally ill and the homeless, I am a husband, father, son, and brother, I am a tax payer and I vote in every election, I try to be the best I can and realize sometimes I fail.

Laws are meant to protect people from each other, the cops didn't write them. Please remember the cop that writes you for speeding in a 25 may have worked a fatality the day before, the cop "running" a red light may be responding to an emergency call to help one of your relatives, the cop you see wasting time in a restaurant may just be eating lunch.

Remember that cops do the job that most people wouldn't want to do, they run toward danger and take on evil people every day in the name of your community. Most cops love their jobs and place themselves in harms way without question to protect you. Too many die serving their community. Although, we don't ask for it we'd appreciate a little understanding and compassion from the people we serve.

I'll close with a phrase from a childhood TV hero (definately not worth two cents now though) "If you can't do the time don't do the crime".
