It all started innocently enough. I had broken my ankle and was laid up and my best friend came over to keep me company. We were on the couch, and she let me lay my head in her lap so that I could keep my leg up over the arm of the couch. I was laying there, we were talking and she started to caress my face. She ran her fingers over my nose, my lips, my chin, she stopped our conversation and told me she thought I was beautiful, that she had always thought I was beautiful. She told me that if she was a boy she would date me. She asked me if I thought she was beautiful.
Like I said, it was all innocent, and then we were talking about being beautiful. Her hand was on my breast, she was telling me that she wanted to kiss me right then, to just kiss me and show me how much she cared for me. That maybe we could pretend that we were not two girls. She lifted my head and kissed me.
The moment passed, but she kept my head in her arms holding me against her while we talked about nothing, just made up conversation. From time to time she would look down at me and caress my face. Why I never stopped her, or why I just laid in her arms I don't know. We were friends, sure we were close, but not that kind of close.
She lifted my head and got up and laid my head on the pillow and got down on her knees beside the couch while she caressed my face. I asked her what she was doing and she said she wanted to look into my eyes and see my soul. Her hand fell on my breast again and she leaned over and kissed me again. This time I pressed her hand on my breast and kissed her back. I told her that what we were doing was going to get us in trouble. She said that she didn't care, we were in trouble anyway.
We were in the eighth grade, not old enough to date. Maybe exactly how it happened was different, but not the kissing or caressing, or knowing that we were going to get in trouble. For the two weeks that I couldn't go to school she came over every afternoon to help me with my school work, and took my work back to school for me. When I got to go back to school she carried my books and lunch, helped me get around on my crutches, escorted me to the bathroom, and made sure no one knocked me over.
We were best friends that summer, and the rest of high school. In college we tried different subjects, she wanted to study business and I went into nursing. Later she changed into nursing so she graduated a year after I did. On rainy days, I lay my head in her lap and she caresses my face. To me she is beautiful. She is my best friend. She is more than my best friend. That feeling I had when she first kissed me, I still have, it has never gone away. Except now I lay my head in her lap on our couch, and no one is going to walk in on us.
