I'm 14. My cousin who is also 14 came to live with us this summer when we moved here in July. It was just supposed to be for the summer. But now his parents are getting divorced. And my mom says my aunt will probably end up in a mental hospital from the stress. So my mome went to the high school today to enroll my cousin. She even asked to put him in all the same classes as me. Except gym (because girls and boys are separate) and band. He wanted to be in band and I want to do Advanced Cheer & Pom.

Anyway, he is weird. He looks normal, even hot (kinda like Freddy Prinze, Jr.). But he acts creepy and is all into the Lord of the Rings and swords. He doesn't try to talk to any girls at all. But I don't think he is gay because he has all these drawings of elf girls and princesses around his room. What can I do?
I want him to be more normal because I have been looking forward to high school my whole life. When people find out he is my cousin, no one will like me.

Maybe he will have his friends, and you will have your friends.
He is probably at least as creeped out by you as you are by him.
Sounds like a growth experience for both of you.

Your cousin just sounds like a geek. There's nothing wrong with that. The kids I knew from High School who were geeks, for the most part, turned out pretty well. He's just into different things that you're not into. Give him a chance.

Grow up and stop being such a jerk! Your cousin is probably going through a difficult time at the moment and doesn't need grief from his self centered cheer leader of a cousin. Show some compassion!

Advanced Cheer & Pom?!
You're kidding, right?
And you think he's strange for enjoying The Lord of the Rings?
Where I come from you'd be considered the weirdo for sure.

Seriously though, guys and gals are different.
We grow up at different times and have different interests.
He'll probably make friends who dig him as long as your home town has the least bit of sophistication or tolerance.
Hmm, Advanced Cheer & Pom, eh?
Maybe you'd better ignore the sophistication part of that sentence...

No, really, you should try to be more open to his tastes and preferences before you push your own onto him.
He's probably in a bad emotional place right now and a little real understanding would be helpful - especially from a peer.
