My sister and her husband are members of a rather exclusive country club which has a couple of indoor tennis courts. My one other sibling besides my sister is another brother and both of us were visiting my sister and her family this last weekend. They had arranged for us to get court time at the country club on Friday night.

They were going to get to the court and wait for me since I had something I needed to do on the way over. I packed up my gym bag, did my errands (which took longer than I thought they would) and headed over. When I got to the courts, I identified myself as my sister's guest and they directed me towards the changing rooms. People gave me odd looks as I got dressed but I just dismissed them at the time. My brother-in-law met me on the way out of the changing romm and told me there was an 'all white' rule which forbid any clothing that wasn't white. They allowed splashes of color on trim and zippers, but you couldn't wear the blue shorts I had on. We all headed over to the desk to see if they'd make an exception.

"No, it's a hard and fast rule. Sorry. The other problem is that you're late and the current session is mixed doubles. You have to be wearing white and", looking iver my brother and I, "one of you will have to wear a skirt.", the young lady behind the desk joked. "I'm sorry, but those are the rules. We do have a lost and found box - maybe there's a pair of white shorts that will fit you." She handed the box over the desk.

My sister and I poked through the box. There were no shorts of any kind, quite a few random socks (although mine were white and who would want to wear random old socks anyway?) a few shirts and a skirt. "Here you go!" my sister said. "Problem solved." They all laughed as my sister held the skirt up to my waist.

I really wanted to play and they clearly weren't going to bend the rules so I asked if they'd let me play in the skirt. Besides, how much worse could wearing it be than everyone picturing me in the skirt? "Sir, if you're willing to do that, then of course we will" the attendant giggled.

I stepped into the skirt, pulled it up to my waist and my sister helped me with the zipper in back. She said "you won't need these" and pulled the shorts down. I stepped out of them and scurried off to the court, hoping that as few people as possible saw me. The room we were in only had two courts so the only people there were our party of 4 and the other pair of doubles. Not too bad, I thought.

I didn't play very well. I kept trying to keep from exposing my underwear and stifling the urge to kill my brother who couldn't keep from laughing. A woman on the other court kept looking over and laughing too. I would have rather been chatting her up and asking her out but instead, well, it wasn't going to happen.

Anyway, the time ended, I put my pants back on and went to drop the skirt off at the desk. As if things weren't bad enough already, they have closed circuit TV in the facility and an unknown number of people at the bar had been watching, laughing and asking who the guy in the skirt was.

I doubt I'll ever be brave enough to show my face there again. My sister says they keeping asking when she'll be inviting me back.

I used to play golf at a club north of LA that sounds like that - they had the same arrangement of two indoor courts in the same building as a bar, with CCTV and really stupid rules about clothing. Tennis players have to wear white, basketball players have to wear shirts with sleeves, etc. They had some stupid rules for golfers too but no one paid them much attention. This place was about 15 miles north of the city. I don't suppose your sister lives in LA?

11790 - Yes, it must be the drugs.

11792 - She does live north of Los Angeles. It took about an hour to drive from the airport. According to a map it looks like it's about 20 miles so maybe we're talking about the same place. It seems unlikely, but I also wouldn't have thought that _any_ club would have such dumb rules. Didn't Wimbledon ditch their white clothing rule?

I didn't notice that people acted stuck up, but then I was with a group and we didn't interact with a lot of other people there. I wouldn't want to pay whatever it probably costs to join a club like that and the clothing rules are pretty stupid. I guess it's something you just deal with if you picked that club for some other reason.

The whole embarrassing situation was presented as a joke and it only went as far as it did because I went along with it. If I lived in the area and ever had to see any of these people again I would have just told them to f off and left.

The bright side of this is the attendant felt bad (maybe just a little) for suggesting it and thought I was cute. She asked my sister to forward along a note which I should be receiving in a few days. My sister didn't read it and we're dying to see what it says.
